Board of Directors

Softball Ontario, the sport governing body for softball in Ontario, consists of personnel in both a volunteer and staff capacity. Leading the volunteer component is an elected Board of Directors.

Providing the Board of Directors with information regarding the direction of the organization is a series of committees. These committees – the Ad Hoc Committees of Coaching, House League Development, Fast Pitch Umpires and Slo-Pitch Umpires, LTPD Competition Review, LTPD Technical Programs, and CANpitch manage the day-to-day operation of the organization within their area of responsibility.

Coaching Committee

The Softball Ontario Coaching Committee is comprised of six members and a chairman. They meet twice a year (January and September) and report to the Softball Ontario Board of Directors. At these meetings they map out the directions of the Coaching Development programs for the province and address the needs and concerns voiced by the softball coaching community.

The committee is responsible for recruiting and training softball coaches to become learning facilitators/trainers of the new NCCP (National Coaching Certification Programs) and other Softball Ontario designed clinics such as Learn to Coach clinic (designed for the house league and beginner coach), and our Pitcher-Catcher, and Batting for Coaches clinic.

The Coaching Committee’s goal is to serve the coaches of softball who are our direct link to the participants of the sport. It is therefore important that lines of communication are available through our coaches registry program and our expanded web page, so we can meet the needs of all coaches from the house league and Learn to Play coaches through to the Senior Level and Canada Summer Games coaches.

CANpitch Committee

The Softball Ontario CANpitch Committee is comprised of seven members and a chairman. They meet twice a year (January and September) and report to the Softball Ontario Board of Directors. At these meetings, the Committee discusses the implementation and delivery of the CANpitch Program for our Ontario participants at the grassroots level and addresses the needs/concerns voiced by the wind-mill pitching community.

The CANpitch Committee is also responsible for recruiting and training Regional Pitching Instructors to become the lead Instructor in delivering the CANpitch Program to our grassroots participants throughout Ontario.

Every year the CANpitch Committee organizes and delivers 6-week training sessions to communities throughout Ontario, reaching out to the grassroots level participants who have little to no pitching experience.

Slo-Pitch Umpire Personnel

The Slo-Pitch Umpire Committee is under the leadership of the Slo-Pitch Provincial Umpire-in-Chief, who strives to provide quality officiating in Ontario. Both the Fast Pitch and the Slo-Pitch Umpire Committees ensure the proper and efficient delivery of umpire clinics, the on-field evaluation program, provide quality umpires to Provincial and Canadian championships, promote the program, trains qualified clinic instructors/evaluators and looks to the future for the program. The Committee meets twice a year in January and September to plan the upcoming season and discuss the previous. Each Umpire Committee consists of four members – a Provincial Umpire-in-Chief and three Deputies. Serving under the Slo-Pitch Umpire Committee are nine Zone Umpires-in-Chief (ZUICs). Each ZUIC serves one of the nine zones into which Ontario is divided.
