COVID-19 Update

With the latest information regarding the government of Ontario’s response to COVID-19 and after diligently working with the Ministry for a Return to Play solution, here are the current updates in regards to our Member Associations. Please note that you MUST follow your region/municipality guidelines first and foremost.
ORSA has cancelled the entirety of their 2020 season.
PWSA has just announced the cancellation of their Provincial Championships and are now working with teams to allow them to play exhibition games in “pods”.
OASA is in discussions with their teams on how to proceed for the remainder of the season. Further details will be provided later this week.
SPOA has cancelled their Super Series Events and all Provincial Championships for the 2020 season. Focus will be on local leagues and tournament that are interested in playing some fall ball under the current provincial COVID-19 guidelines.
Softball Ontario is in support of all of their Member Associations and we want to thank them for all of their hard work thus far. We thank everyone for their understanding and support as we navigate through this very tough and challenging time for all.

Softball Ontario will re-evaluate circumstances based on a two week time period. Email messages will continued to be monitored and we will endeavor to provide support to our Members as best we can in the weeks to come.

Softball Canada Cancels 2020 Canadian Championships

Please see the statement below from Softball Canada in regards to cancelling all 2020 Canadian Championships:

Ottawa, Ont. – After carefully considering all factors at play, Softball Canada’s Board of Directors has made the decision to cancel all of its Canadian Fast Pitch and Slo-Pitch Championships for the 2020 season due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

A total of ten Canadian Championships were scheduled to be held in six different provinces between late July and early September.

“Our decision to cancel the 2020 Canadian Championships was an extremely difficult one, however we are confident it is the right call designed to protect the health and wellbeing of our member athletes, coaches, umpires and volunteers” stated Softball Canada President Scott Neiles. “We remain extremely hopeful that the 2020 softball season will be able to be played at the local level in many areas of the country.”

Softball Canada continues to recommend the suspension of all softball activities in Canada until May 31, 2020. As of June 1, 2020, with the divergent Provincial/Territorial AND Local phases of re-opening facilities and sport, Softball Canada advises members to follow the guidelines established by their local Provincial/Territorial Softball Associations. Their decisions are informed by their respective Provincial/ Territorial Governments and Health Care authorities and recognize different regional conditions and approaches.

2020 Coaching Clinics – CANCELLED

Due to the on-going circumstances of COVID-19, Softball Ontario has cancelled all coaching clinics for the 2020 season. All participants and hosts will be provided refunds. Please allow up to a week to process the outstanding refunds.

At this time, Softball Canada, as well as Softball Ontario’s Member Associations (PWSA, OASA, ORSA) are working together on a solution to certify coaches for the upcoming season. We will release an update with this information as soon as it is made available.
