General Information

Certification Level I Clinic

The Level I Clinic would be beneficial to all Umpires.

Knowing the proper Mechanics and Rules of the game prior to stepping on the field will make for a more respected official. The Level I Umpire Clinic would also be beneficial to coaches and players, giving them a better understanding of softball, while providing insight into the role officials play in the game.

  1. Online Learning (Asynchronous)
  2. In-Person Activity-Based Training (4 hours)
*Completion of both components is required for clinic certification.

Online Learning Component

Registered participants will receive access to online training modules prior to their scheduled in-person clinic. These modules must be completed in advance and will cover essential knowledge, including rules, mechanics, and core umpiring principles. This asynchronous format allows umpires to complete the material at their own pace and revisit content as needed.

In-Person Activity-Based Clinic

The in-person portion of the clinic will now be a four-hour, activity-focused session. This training will emphasize practical application through on-field instruction, drills, demonstrations, and scenario-based learning. By reducing classroom time and increasing hands-on engagement, participants will gain more meaningful experience and confidence in real game situations.

Topics covered at this clinic include: Rules and Definitions, Plate and Base Umpire Mechanics, one and two umpire systems, the Role of the Umpire, Use of the Rulebook, Umpire Signals and more. Clinic participants will receive a Softball Canada Level I Manual.
